Several of these need a metro ride: CosmoCaixa and Camp Nou in particular are not walkable from the old town. And Spanish opening hours run late: most of this list is still open at 19:00, which makes the early evening a genuinely good slot with children who nap. ## Why the Museum of Illusions works with children The problem with most museums and small children is the instruction not to touch anything. Here the instruction is the opposite. The museum is 30+ hand-painted walk-in murals. Each one has a mark on the floor showing exactly where to stand so that the perspective works through a camera. Children climb into the picture: riding a dragon, crossing a rope bridge over a canyon, being chased by a dinosaur, standing in Shrek's swamp. There is nothing to read and nothing to break, which means it works the same whether your child is four or fourteen, and whether or not they speak English. Free, chaotic, 30 minutes. 2. **12:00** · Museum of Illusions on Pintor Fortuny, three minutes' walk off La Rambla. 60 to 90 minutes and roughly 200 photographs. 3. **13:30** · Lunch in the Raval or Gothic Quarter, five minutes either way. 4. **15:00** · Maritime Museum at the bottom of La Rambla, or the beach at Barceloneta if the weather has turned. Under 5s enter free, the museum is mostly on one level and pushchairs are welcome.
